Firewall Protection, and why you need it!
|
| A few weeks ago I decided to get Firewall protection for my computers. The first thing I noticed was that the little Message light came on often. After figuring out how it worked I went looking at the history of these intrusions.
The first thing I found is: that it's pretty easy to get into someone else's computer. I was using AOL for the most part the last few years so I sent them a long list of intruders, the servers they were using and the phony emails. They sent me back a standard note, sorry but we are too overwhelmed by these intruders to be of service. I notifed numerous other servers and web browser companies, pretty much got the same response. I was also notified that several of the addresses I sent them were for "worms" and "virususes" In two weeks I have logged in over 200 attacks. That's as serious as it gets so far. Imagine you have been using your computer for the last year without a Firewall. Your system has to be loaded with "bugs" Since no-one is interested in your well being, it might be a real good idea to go out and spend a few dollars on a Firewall for your personal computer. Set your cookies to "Prompt" in the web browser window. This way you can see where they are coming from. I rarely accept them myself. Also set your system up to empty the temporary cache after logging off. A lot of the attacks were from other countries where there is no law. Keep that in mind. You basically have no recourse if you lose your identity or valuable stuff on your computer. McAffee is running a sale on Firewall/Virus protection at most store's for $29.95. Do yourself a favor and go get the software for your system. I'm running the Norton Firewall in my Mac and it seems to do the job. What should we do if we CATCH a hacker? Just call me, I have a few good ideas from my childhood growing up in NYC. It will be more than a slap on the wrist. smokin joe |
