BOWMAN DIES FROM INJURIES INCURRED IN AMA
SUPERBIKE PRACTICE ACCIDENT

MONTEREY, Calif. --The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and Laguna Seca

Raceway were informed tonight by the Monterey County Coroner's Office that AMA Superbike rider Jamie Bowman was declared deceased at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 7, a result of injuries sustained in an accident during the Friday morning Superbike practice session at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif.

The 25-year-old Bowman was riding alone, exiting turn two and approaching turn three, when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a wall at approximately 10:10 a.m. He was transported by helicopter to San Jose Medical Center with a closed head injury and broken clavicle.

The Superbike practice session was cancelled immediately following Bowman's collision, and rescheduled for Friday afternoon. The Monterey County Coroner's Office reported that Bowman's desire was to be an organ donor. Procedures have been taken to that end with full family consent. The organs have been artificially maintained throughout the donation process which is ongoing at this time.

Bowman, from Boynton Beach, FL, was licensed as an AMA professional rider in1992, and was competing with the Hooters Suzuki Superbike team. He also competed in the AMA 750 SuperSport series, where he won the June 17 race at New Hampshire International Speedway, and was ranked second in series points.

"Jamie wanted to compete at the highest levels of his chosen profession and it is with great sadness that we report the loss of his life while pursuing that dream," said Scott Hollingsworth, CEO of AMA Pro Racing. "He was very highly regarded throughout the paddock and will be greatly missed."

Fans at Laguna Seca bowed their heads in a moment of silent prayer for Bowman during Saturday morning's race invocation ceremony.

Nicky Hayden dedicated his win to Jamie in the Superbike final.
